Tinreamh

An Polasaí Frith-thromaíochta
Is aidhm leis an Pholasaí Frith-thromaíochta leasaithe cosc a chur ar agus tabhairt faoi gach cineál tromaíochta. Tugann sé sainmhíniú soiléir ar an iompar tromaíochta agus ar na straitéisí is cuí agus is éifeachtaí le tabhairt faoi mar aon leis an reachtaíocht chuí ón Roinn Oideachais. Caitheann Coláiste Feirste le líomhaintí tromaíochta go han-dáiríre. Pastoral Care
Each child at Coláiste Feirste is a valued member of our Irish-medium family. As such, their pastoral care is at the heart of the school. We aim to create an environment where pupils feel safe and cared for, and are encouraged to engage readily in learning and develop as confident young Gaels.
Attendance
Our children cannot be helped to learn and to develop for life if they are not in school on a regular basis. Miss school, Miss out! is our ongoing theme for attendance. Our Deputy Year Heads (DHoYs) encourage students to be in and on time every day. We expect your child to be in school for between 95-100% of the time. Pupils who reach 95-100% attendance achieve the highest GCSE, AS and A2 grades year after year, qualifications which give them opportunities and choices in life. You should contact us if there are any reason your child cannot attend school. We want to work with you, parents, to encourage good attendance, so our team will be in touch if attendance begins to fall.
Learning and Development
There is a natural link between learning and pastoral care. Pupils cannot achieve their full potential unless they are safe, happy, and settled at school. Therefore, our pastoral care team monitor and support your child's social, physical, and intellectual well-being. Good communication and cooperation between home and school is vital in this regard. The form teacher is the first contact for the pupil and for you, the parent, and for the pastoral team.
Positive Hearts and Minds
Preparing for adulthood can sometimes be difficult – but it helps to have clear self-awareness and experience of positive relationships. Respecting themselves and others begins in AND out of the classroom, with clear expectations and boundary-setting from us, the responsible adults! Developing these skills is brilliant practice for listening, understanding and empathising. Positivity is crucial, as we know that conflict creates toxicity in our children’s minds and bodies, which is why repairing broken hearts and angry heads is done in a restorative way. We believe that this approach develops positive behaviours and promotes an effective balance with the use of rules and sanctions to create a calm and safe learning environment.
The Preventive Curriculum
Prevention is better than cure. Our young people face challenging issues nowadays, particularly in the era of social media. We will be preventative in our pastoral approaches and in getting our children to understand and talk about life’s big topics with confidence.
Pupil Voice
We aim to develop a generation of confident young Gaels. This begins at school by creating opportunities for them to take ownership of issues and to develop leadership skills. Our Pupil Voice forums, for example, are growing in strength, with Gaelcheannairí telling us what we, as a school, can do, to make school life better. Parental voice is also central to this progress, and we encourage you to contact us with any suggestions or concerns which may improve this journey for your child.

Emer Mhic an Fhailí (Vice Principal) is the Designated Teacher for the Protection of Children and Siobhán Nic Giolla Eáin is the Deputy Child Protection Officer. They are guided by the policy and advice of the EA Safeguarding Team. All Child Protection cases will be treated confidentially, and the relevant legislation will be adhered to in all cases. All staff have trained in child protection and this training is updated annually. If a staff member is concerned that a pupil might be suffering abuse or neglect, they will immediately bring this concern to the Designated Teacher. Teachers are not obliged to seek any information from parents/carers or any other family member before submitting a Note of Concern.

Anti-Bullying Policy
Coláiste Feirste’s Anti-Bullying Policy aims to prevent and address any form of bullying. We adhere to all DE policies and guidelines, incorporating their clear definitions of what constitutes bullying. Coláiste Feirste takes every accusation of bullying very seriously. Allegations of bullying will be dealt with by the Pastoral Team according to the school’s Anti-Bullying Policy, a copy of which is available on the school website.
