Tréadchúram

Aithníonn Coláiste Feirste an tábhacht a bhaineann le tréadchúram maidir lena éifeacht ar shainmheon na scoile.  Féachaimid le hatmaisféar a chruthú ina mothaíonn na daltaí ar a gcompord agus sábháilte:- ina mothaíonn siad go bhfuil tábhacht agus fiúntas mór leo mar dhaoine óga agus ina spreagtar iad le scileanna foghlama agus sóisialta a fhorbairt i dtimpeallacht shlán agus fholláin.

An Córas Tréadchúraim

Ag teacht isteach ar Choláiste Feirste dóibh, tugtar áit do gach dalta i rang foirme lena sainmhúinteoir ainmnithe a thabharfaidh cúram maith dá leas sóisialta, fisiceach agus intleachtúil.

Faigheann na Múinteoirí Foirme tacaíocht óna gCeann Bliana a bhfuil an fhreagracht deiridh aige / aici maidir le leas gach dalta sa Bhlianghrúpa. Tá na Cinn Bhliana faoi stiúir an Leas-Phríomhoide.

Buaileann na Múinteoirí Foirme lena gcuid daltaí ag tionól ranga ag tús agus deireadh gach lae scoile.  Bíonn tionól Bliana ann gach seachtain fosta leis an Cheann Bliana.

Má bhíonn tuismitheoir nó caomhnóir buartha in am ar bith fána bpáiste iarrtar orthu teagmháil a dhéanamh leis an Cheann Bliana nó leis an Mhúinteoir Foirme le hábhair bhuairimh nó fadhbanna a phlé.

Tinrimh

Tá Coláiste Feirste ag dúil leis na daltaí bheith poncúil agus patrún rialta tinrimh a chleachtadh. Tá sé seo an-tábhachtach leis an rath s’acu san oideachas.  Déanann an Múinteoir Foirme nó an Ceann Bhliana, ag brath ar an chás, teagmháil le tuismitheoirí na ndaltaí a bhfuil a ráta tinrimh ina ábhair imní.

Cosaint Pháistí

Cuireann Coláiste Feirste béim ar leith ar leas pearsanta ár gcuid daltaí agus bímid cúramach agus aireach inár gcleachtais maidir le leas agus sábháilteacht s’acu.

Tá baill foirne (baineann agus fireann) ainmnithe ag an scoil le haire a thabhairt do riachtanais tréadchúraim ar leith agus ar cheisteanna a bhaineann le cosaint páistí.  Is é Damien Mac Giolla, (Leas-Phríomhoide) an Múinteoir Ainmnithe do Chosaint Páiste agus Caitlín Ní Ruanaidh muna mbíonn Damien i láthar. Pléifear le cás ar bith faoi rún agus discréid agus cloífear leis an reachtaíocht chuí i ngach cás.

Mínítear do bhaill foirne an dóigh le haithint má bhíonn aon chineál mí-úsáide ar pháistí ag teacht aníos sa scoil agus sa chás go mbíonn múinteoir imníoch faoi aon cheann de na ceisteanna thuas, cuirfidh sé/sí an buaireamh in iúl don mhúinteoir ainmnithe láithreach.

Pastoral Care

Coláiste Feirste recognises the importance that pastoral care plays in influencing the ethos of our school.  We attempt to create an atmosphere in which the pupils feel safe: - where they feel valuable and worthwhile as individuals and where they are encouraged to grow in both learning and social skills in a safe, healthy environment.

The Pastoral Care System

On their entry to Coláiste Feirste, each pupil is allocated a place in a form class with a particular form teacher assigned to look after their social, physical and intellectual wellbeing.

These Form Teachers are supported by a Head of Year who has the ultimate responsibility for the welfare of every child in his/her Year Group

Form Teachers meet with their pupils in class assembly at the beginning and at the end of the school day.  There is also a Year Group assembly every week.

Attendance

Coláiste Feirste expects all students to be punctual and to have a regular pattern of attendance.  This is very important for success in their education.  The Form Teacher or Year Head, depending on the case, contacts the parents of students whose attendance is a cause for concern.

Child Protection

Coláiste Feirste adopts a particular caring style in relation to personal matters concerning our pupils and exercises caution and attention regarding their wellbeing and safety.

The designated teacher for Child Protection is Damien Mac Giolla (Vice-Principal), and in his absence, Caitlín Ní Ruanaidh.  Any case will be treated and dealt with in strict confidence and child protection issues will be dealt with within the appropriate legislative framework

All members of staff are made aware of how to recognise the signs indicating any form of child abuse and should he/she have any concerns regarding a student, the designated teacher will be informed immediately.

Teachers are not obliged to seek any information from parents / guardians or from any other family member.

Bullying

Coláiste Feirste has revised its approach to tackling bullying in conjunction with experts in the field.  The revised Anti-Bullying Policy aims to prevent and tackle all forms of bullying.  It gives a clear definition of what constitutes bullying behaviour and the most appropriate and effective strategies to tackle it.  Coláiste Feirste takes every accusation of bullying very seriously. Allegations of bullying will be dealt with by the Pastoral Team according to the school’s Anti-Bullying Policy, a copy of which is available on the school website.

A range of policies are available on the school website www.colaistefeirste.org

Behaviour for Learning

Coláiste Feirste ensures good discipline through our policy Behaviour for Learning. This is a positive behaviour strategy based on good relations, the avoidance of conflict and the promotion of good behaviour rather than a negative focus on rules and sanctions.  It covers all aspects of the school that contribute to a positive learning environment and school ethos.  All members of the school are expected to help maintain an environment conducive to learning of which the fundamental tenets are mutual respect, courtesy and tolerance.

Aims of Positive Behaviour Policy:

  • To promote Gaelic culture and language

  • To support effective learning and teaching

  • To contribute to mutual respect

  • To maintain an orderly environment both within the school and the surrounding community

  • To gain the agreement and active support of teachers, support staff and parents/carers

  • To work in partnership with parents/carers to encourage positive behaviour and attitudes

  • To promote Pupil Voice in regard to Behaviour for Learning expectations and rewards

  • To reward good behaviour and achievement

  • To sanction poor behaviour appropriately
