An Club Leabhair

Tig Club Leabhar na Leabharlann Scoile do KS3 le chéile gach Déardaoin ag am sosa agus am lóin. Tá a mhana agus a ainm féin ag an chlub ar casfhocal é: Léigh Leabhair Labhair ar Leabhair! - Read Books, Rant Books! rud a chruthaigh an leabharlanaí agus na daltaí. Tá caidreamh maith tógtha ag an chlub le gníomhaíochtaí seachtracha le tacú a thabhairt dár léitheoirí óga agus iad ag dul i ngleic leis na dúshláin léitheoireachta eatarthu féin agus a bhaineann le dul a phlé le grúpaí léitheoireachta i scoileanna eile. Bíonn deiseanna liteartha eile ann trí chomórtais scríbhneoireachta agus d’éirigh le go leor dár ndaltaí le scéalta agus dánta a fháil foilsithe in irisí liteartha. Baineann an grúpa le gníomhaíochtaí taobh amuigh de chomhthéacs foirmiúil na leabharlainne fosta, macasamháil múrphictiúr agus scríbhneoireacht thraschultúrtha leis an phobal Síneach agus an lucht taisteail. Bhí siad páirteach i dtionscadail ag déanamh cuilteanna filíochta ar son carthanacht agus tionscadail don phobal mar iarsmalann teanga a chruthú a bhí ina cuid d’Fhéile an Phobail. D’oibrigh siad ar phíosa talaimh nach raibh in úsáid le Cúinne Liteartha, ‘Gairdín na nÉan’ a chruthú ar Bhóthar na bhFál.

The Book Club

The school library’s book club for KS3 meets each Thursday over the break and lunch. It has its own logo and name which is actually a tongue-twister that the pupils and librarian created by using a thought shower. It is, Léigh Leabhair Labhair Ar Leabhair! - Read Books, Rant Books! It has built up excellent relationships with external agencies to support our young readers in meeting their wide-ranging social, emotional, behavioural and learning needs through reading and discussion alongside other book club members and other schools. The literary experience is also involves creative writing opportunities through competitions, with many of our pupils succeeding in having their stories and poems published in literary magazines. It broadens out also to encompass outdoor library classroom activities, such as graffiti murals, cross cultural writing events with the Chinese and traveller communities, sewing poetry quilts as charity fundraiser and also community based projects such as the creation of a language museum as their contribution to the community festival, ‘Féile an Phobail’ and the transformation of a public space from a stretch of waste ground into a ‘Literary Corner’ garden, ‘Gairdín na nÉan’ on the front of the Falls Road in west Belfast.
